'Sills started very strongly and used the conditions to good effect, keeping the Men In Black on the back foot for long periods and eventually going ahead with a very well worked try out on the left. The visitors kept the pressure on the home defence but Spartans were competing well and ambitiously tried to run the ball out of trouble, only for a mistake to be seized upon by 'Sills, and a quickly taken penalty saw a very large forward flop over the line. Spartans made a good response and shortly before half time some lovely handling saw a try for Michael Blair well converted by Tom Hardy and there was only five points in it.
Spartans made a good start to the second half and pushed hard for an equaliser, but a combination of bad luck and mistakes at critical times left the scoreboard unchanged. Finally it seemed the 'Blacks had levelled when Jamie Parker crossed the whitewash, but a knock forward allowed 'Sills to escape and some intelligent play saw them race to the other end, force a penalty and gain the numerical advantage with a Spartan sent to the bin. Scoring from the ensuing lineout, the visitors thought they were home and dry but once more the Men In Black had other ideas, working really hard to release a sweeping move down the right from which Michael Blair grabbed his second try, and the all important bonus point which Spartans certainly deserved.
This week Spartans face another league challenge with an interesting trip to Old Dixonians.
