Expecting a tough contest, Spartans started very strongly and used the conditions to good effect, racing ahead with a very well worked try out on the left and quickly adding two more in the first fifteen minutes. Sensing the roof was about to fall in, the visitors kept the pressure on the home defence and added four more tries before half time and Spartans were totally dominant. Weakened Dixonians ambitiously tried to run the ball out of trouble, but were only able to defend and mistakes under pressure proved very costly.
Dixonians made made a much better start to the second half and pushed hard for a score, and with the game clearly already won relaxed Spartans allowed them not one, but two tries. Determined to win the second half as well as the first, the Men In Black hit back and raised their game to add three more tries against a tired defence. Credit must be given to Dixonians who never threw in the towel but were second best in a game Spartans thoroughly deserved to win. Try scorers included Jamie Parker, Jack Sharpe, Michael Foulds, Josh Turton and Michael Blair.
This week Spartans face a tough challenge with a long trip to Bakewell in the RFU Intermediate Cup.
