Spartans 32 - Veseyans 26

In a keenly anticipated game Spartans started the stronger, going up the hill, they managed to score quickly from the back of a scrum when Mike Bennett put Jamie Parker in to assert some early pressure. Spartans kept the pressure on by keeping some good ball and scoring another two tries from well worked moves, Tom Hardy finishing one and Stuart Smith finishing the other. To their credit the Veseyan's heads did not go down and they soon were rewarded with a try of their own following some prolonged pressure in the Spartans 22. Spartans continued to battle up the slope and finished the half in a commanding lead after scoring a 4th try not long before the half time whistle, Michael Blair the try scorer.

The second half saw Veseyans start the better, with long kicks from their fly half Dan Poulton Spartans found themselves in their own 22 defending a number of driving mauls from lineouts, Veseyans made this their trademark scoring 3 times from similar lineout drives. Not to be out done Spartans re-gained composure and territory and captain Michael Bennett finished off a move to score Spartans 5th try of the game. With the clock ticking Veseyans again put pressure on the Spartans line and managed to score a forwards try with some pick and goes from the base to set up a nervous last 5 minutes. Spartans were able to keep possession and finished the game victorious 32-26.

Spartans travel to another local derby this Saturday when they visit Old Saltlians, all supporters welcome.
