It was the visitors who opened the scoring with a very well struck penalty, but Spartans were equal to the task with Tom Hardy levelling from the tee minutes later. Some good play from Spartans forwards saw Mike Bennett cross in the corner but Droitwich were quick to respond and pushed hard for the equaliser. The black defence held firm and some lovely handling allowed Alex Garbett to burn the defence for 15 - 3 with the extras, but back came Droitwich with a penalty to close the gap. Injuries to key Spartans saw a reshuffle, but the visitors couldn't take advantage and Garbett added his second for 22 - 6 at half time.
The Men In Black got a dream start to the second half when a Droitwich fumble saw a mazy run from James Gibbons and the bonus point try in the corner, prompting a big snooze for the home side. Seizing the game, the big Droitwich forwards forced a penalty try for 27 - 13 and it was one way traffic with Spartans on the back foot. Talented and pacy Droitwich kept the pressure on, and two yellow cards meant twenty minutes of punishment for the remaining black troops. The siege was finally lifted when a hack and chase saw Michael Blair win the race for his first try, but again Droitwich came back strongly, only to be denied by a resolute wall of black. Now the sunshine took it's toll, and baking temperatures saw two sides sweat out the final minutes with Mike Blair adding a sixth try for the Men In Black, who might count themselves lucky to have secured the score line.
