Although they can be
disappointed to have let a lead slip late in the game, a draw was probably
a fair result for both teams.
The men in black started the game strongly and finished a well worked try
through powerful winger James Gibbons to take an early lead. However Old
Coventrians didn't lie down and managed to build up some good momentum
through their powerful pack, which culminated in a good try of their own.
In what was typical of the entire game, the momentum continued to switch
between both teams, and Spartans went into half time with a 15-5 lead,
after a well worked line out and driving maul was finished by captain,
Michael Bennett.
The second half continued in the same vein and Old Coventrians should take
great credit for scoring two well worked tries, the second of which was
scored despite being down to 13 men for 10 minutes. However the game
finally finished all even, when a late Cov penalty minutes before the final
whistle, cancelled out a fantastic length of the pitch Spartans try,
finished by vice captain Michael 'Sherry' Blair, after more terrific work
by winger James Gibbons.
