With Bedworth cancelling the scheduled cup game on Friday evening, Cannock stepped in to give Spartans their first workout of the season.
In a good contest a robust Cannock side did not deserve the scoreline, and it was the overall pace of the game which suited Spartans better.
The Men In Black created five nice tries and conceded one in the first half whilst playing down the Cannock slope to make it 7 - 35 at the break.
The second half saw a brief Cannock revival as they sought to use some big forwards, but mistakes were punished and some promising handling from Spartans kept the scoreboard ticking. An exciting black backline moved the ball well and Spartans racked up six tries to finish the job.
This week Spartans begin their most difficult league programme in history with a tough encounter at Banbury.
