Spartans travelled to Old Sihls where 2nd played 3rd, however the game didn't turn out to be the close encounter that the spectators were expecting. Sihls fired out the blocks and were awarded a penalty straight from the kick off, this was quickly followed up with well worked try in the corner and Spartans found themselves 10-0 down within minutes. The men in black bounced back with some territory and kicked a penalty of their own through Tom Hardy, not to be out done, Spartans back line threw the ball wide and Jamie Parker finished in the corner, Hardy couldn't quite hit the target with the conversion, it was 10-8. Spartans got some field position and put pressure on the Sihls lineout which was rewarded with a penalty, Hardy kicked to make it 10-11. Spartans set piece looked in good nick as this time they put pressure on the Sihls scrum to be awarded a scrum of their own, the black pack pushed over from 5meters and Mike Foulds got the privilege at 8 to get the try, Hardy kicked the conversion to make it 10-18. An exchange of kicks ensued and Spars found themselves with a line out on their own 10meter, Sihls did very well to disrupt and gain possession and their forwards worked some good pick and goes to make it 15-18 at the half time whistle.
Within seconds of the restart, Spars found themselves with another scrum on Sihls 5 meter line, this time the referee deemed Foulds to have made a double movement, Sihls capitalised and kicked out to safety then their back line made a good break off a line out to score a try in the corner, conversion missed, score was 20-18.
Some Sihls phases resulted in another try in the other corner this time, conversion went in off the cross bar and it was 27-18.
Sihls saw a break in Spars defensive line from the kick off, some good hands from their back line again resulted in a try under the sticks, 34-18. The second half saw too many unforced errors from Spartans as well as missed tackles, both being out of character so far this season. Sihls took their chances very well and with a very talented back line they ran in another 2 scores to make it 48-18 at the final whistle.
This week Spartans host Leamington where they will be looking to improve on their overall performance, all support will be welcomed.
