Spartans 1's 46 Nuneaton Old Edwardians 12

Spartans gained an early penalty and showed their intent by kicking to the corner, a well worked line out resulted in Jack Bingham getting on the score sheet, Tom Hardy slotted the conversion.
Soon after, Ally Eyre received a yellow card for tackling in an off side position, Nuns' opted for the scrum and scored via their elusive 9 from 5 meters out, conversion was missed.
Nuns' 15 dump tackled Andy Bennett off the ball and was rewarded with the second yellow of the game, Spartans capitalised as Hardy kicked 3 points for the home side. First half ended 10-5.

Start of the first half saw Mike Foulds break off the back of a scrum to extend Spartans lead and Hardy kicked conversion. Spartans found themselves with another scrum 5 meters out and looked to turn the screw, after 3 or 4 scrums in a row Mike Foulds scored another off the back this time the conversion was missed by Hardy, score was 22-5. The next score followed some good phase play resulting in the black back line sending the ball out wide for Alex Garbett to score in the corner, conversion kicked by Hardy 29-5. Nuns' fought back and put some decent phases of their own together but some lovely hands from front rowers Perry Bates-Powell and Will Wright put Sherry Blair free down the line, a nice inside pass put Alex Garbett under the sticks for his 2nd, conversion kicked by Hardy 36-5. Rich Greenhalgh caught the subsequent kick off and made a superb break, a quick ruck gave Matt Southam the chance to open his legs down the wing which he took well, conversion missed by Hardy 41-5.
Alex Bennett & Alex Garbett then combined well and put skipper Jack Sharpe into some space only to be stopped by a brave last ditch tackle by Nuns 15. Play then moved to the other end of the park where Jack Sharpe was involved again but this time he was shown a yellow for his defensive efforts, Nuns' took their chance and scored a nice try to make it 41-12. Spartans managed to get the last word through Matt Southam who ran his second of the game in the same corner he scored his first, conversion missed to make the final score 46-12.

This week Spartans host Old Sihilians in the Midlands Intermediate Cup semi-final. All support will be warmly received.
