Pinley started the brighter with a couple of turn overs at the lineout and some unforced errors from Spartans meant Pinley were soon on the score sheet with a penalty, 3-0. Spartans bounced straight back with some territory and a penalty of their own before making amends at the lineout with a superb catch and drive from 5 meters out, Pinley did well to keep the home side out. Possession exchanged a couple of times then Spartans exerted some pressure at a scrum, dished the ball out to the backs and a great line by Ewan Tweadie resulted in a score under the sticks, Tom Hardy adding the extra 2. Play was pretty even until Spartans and Hardy took another 3 points from the tee to make it 10-3 at the break.
Spartans kicked off the second half and some early pressure gave Hardy another 3 points. A piece of great individual skill by Alex Garbett saw him glide down the wing, kick over the top and regain his own kick to score a fine try. Another penalty kick by Hardy and Spartans had some breathing room with the scoreboard standing at 23-3. On a typical winters day both sides gave too many unforced errors away resulting in a scrappy affair, Spartans took to the conditions upfront and after 4 scrums in a row eventually put a couple of phases together, hooker Will Wright surprising himself with try. Pinley never gave up and worked their way back up the pitch to score a try of their own, unfortunately for them this was somewhat of a consolation as the game ended 27-10.
