Old Yardleians 17 Spartans 7

Spartans travelled to Old Yardleians for their first encounter for some time. The first half saw good commitment from both sides with the defence coming out on top as the half finished 0-0.

Spartans started the second half with a great individual effort by full back Matt Southam who raced around the outside to score under the posts. Old Yardleians then hit straight back, retaining the ball from their kick off and using their heavy forwards to good effect they secured a score of their own to make it 5-7. Spartans then went down to 14 when their number 8 got sent to the bin, this seem to trigger a lack of concentration from the men in black. Old Yards looked to take advantage and use their bulky pack again and soon enough they got another score to pull further ahead.
Within the next few plays Old Yards kicked over the top and as Spartans fly half dived on to the ball on his own try line he was deemed to have done so illegally and Old Yards were awarded a penalty try and the number 10 was given 10 minutes rest for his efforts.
The home side played the conditions well and made the most of their numerical advantage to go on and secure a home win, final score 17-7.

Coppice lane welcome Newbold on Avon this coming weekend. The men in black will be looking to lay a few demons to rest and improve on their recent performance against some very tough opposition. All support would be warmly received.
