Leamington 6 Spartans 17

Spartans finally managed to take their cup form into the league when they travelled over to Leamington and secured their first league win of 2015.

With Leamington looking to avenge their earlier away defeat it was the home side who issued some early pressure and went 3-0 up within the first few minutes of play. Spartans soon shook the motorway out of their legs and having an early advantage in the set piece managed to stretch the home defence when Jack Sharpe ran in an early try. Leamington were keen to go into half time with a lead and soon managed another penalty kick to make the score 6-5 at the break.

Spartans embraced the slope in the 2nd half and continued to put pressure on the home side upfront to secure territory and possession for periods of time, this payed dividends when the forwards put the ball through a number of pair of hands before Adam Bennett crossed the line for a rare try. Leamington secured some good possession of their own but the away defence managed to stay strong and were rewarded with nice try from full back Matt Southam. With a bonus point in their sights there was a frantic finish but Leamington held firm to the final whistle. A pleasing start for Spartans new physio and Director of rugby Tim Rich.

Spartans host Old Leamingtonians this coming weekend at Coppice Lane, kick off 1415. All support welcome.
