Spartans 3's travelled the short distance down the A38 to play Yardley & District 2's in the Merit League under the guidance of our leader Carl Todd, without him we could end up anywhere.... A few dodgy looking pubs along the way looked quite attractive....
On a day good for rugby with a nice bit of winter sunshine and a breeze but heavy under foot the game started in a lively manner as it continued throughout....
The Spartans front row had a new addition at hooker with Phil Norton stepping up in place of the "promoted" Juddy.... Straight lineouts over 5 metres... We do wonder....
We more then matched them up front and gave them a "bit of a seeing to" at scrum time, there seemed plenty of this as our slick backs sometimes forgot how to catch the ball....
There were "various encounters|" taking place on the pitch, the most notable of these was the Yards 8 and out "strawberry blonde" centre Adam Riley... They had a few "romantic rolls" in the mud and definitely swapped phone numbers after over a Babycham in the bar...
Anyway we scored seven tries and three conversions but more importantly defended well when we needed to and kept there score to zero! As our Director of Rugby says, attacks win cups, defences win leagues.... We won't win this years league but a zero points against feels like it...
Oh and Denty scored.... We did try to call ahead to the clubhouse to tell them as they would need to lock him out....
He did run all the way from Spartans then nail the last 5 meters like a man possessed....
Maybe more next week, then again.....
