This morning the Spartans U7s travelled to Aston Old Edwardians, for what proved to be an incredible display of teamwork and thoroughly enjoyable morning of rugby played in the very best spirit.
Building on previous matches and what we have been talking about in training, the improvement in structure, decision-making, and teamwork was clear to see - with players playing with improved focus, showing an appreciation of space, and passing before being tagged in order to create space.
Ethan, playing as captain, led by example with a composed and hardworking display - which included both strong running in attack, and committed defence.
Harry P played with increased confidence, making better decisions and improved awareness to make a number of positive runs forwards.
Henry put in a really mature performance, carrying the ball with confidence & purpose, and using clever footwork to create a number of opportunities for both himself & his team.
Imogen worked hard in defence to claim a number of crucial tags, and was her usual pacy threat in attack - including linking beautifully with Poppy to score one particularly well-worked try.
Poppy was solid in defence & showed great reactions to recover any loose balls, as well as being fearless in attack - driving forward at every opportunity to keep pressure on the Aston defence.
I’d like to express my appreciation to Aston Old Edwardians for being wonderful hosts (including accommodating our request of an earlier kick-off time), and their players for being fantastic competitors. I’d also like to thank all the parents / carers from both teams for creating such a positive atmosphere with their cheers from the sidelines. We couldn’t do it without your support!
