What a fantastic morning of rugby as a combined Spartans U7 and U8 squad travelled to face Erdington. With an incredible 26 players representing the club across four teams — Swords, Shields, Spears, and Chaos — it was a brilliant showcase of everything Spartans rugby stands for: teamwork, confidence, enjoyment, and togetherness. Every player contributed, and the standard of rugby on display continues to rise week by week.

Swords:

Freddie (C), Saul, Edward, Ben W, Rupert, Jacob

The Swords played with excellent structure and understanding, showing a real balance between attack and defence. Their ability to maintain shape, support one another, and move the ball with purpose made them a very effective unit throughout the morning.

Freddie captained the side superbly, leading with calm decision-making and a real sense of responsibility. His communication and ability to link play helped the team move the ball effectively across the pitch.

Saul was a commanding presence throughout, combining strong running with intelligent positioning. He consistently made himself available in both attack and defence, helping the team stay organised and competitive.

Edward continued his excellent progress, showing confidence with ball in hand and making positive contributions in defence. His willingness to get involved in every phase was great to see.

Ben W worked tirelessly throughout, showing determination in defence and carrying the ball with purpose. His effort and consistency helped keep the team on the front foot.

Rupert impressed with his enthusiasm and growing awareness of the game. He made some important contributions and showed great commitment throughout.

Jacob brought energy and intent to every phase, combining strong running with good support play and an uncanny ability to turnover the ball whenever it hit the ground. His eye for spotting space helped create opportunities for the team.

Shields:

The Shields showed great resilience and togetherness, working hard for each other in every match. Their defensive effort and willingness to support one another made them a tough team to break down.

Toby (C), Dylan, Finlay, Eddie T, Harry H, Henry

Toby led by example with a composed and confident performance, guiding the team well throughout. His awareness and movement ensured he was always involved in key moments.

Dylan played with great intensity, contributing strongly in both attack and defence. His work rate and determination stood out across the matches.

Finlay showed excellent commitment, making important tags and carrying the ball with confidence. His effort never dropped and he supported his teammates brilliantly.

Eddie T brought focus and leadership to the team, working hard in defence and helping to organise play. His attitude and effort were first class.

Harry H showed great enthusiasm and bravery, getting involved in the action and building confidence as the games progressed. A really positive performance.

Henry worked hard throughout, showing good awareness and a willingness to contribute in all areas. His effort and teamwork were great to see.

Spears:
James (C),Theo, Eddie J, Ben P, Harry P, Ethan

The Spears played with real energy and attacking intent, always looking to move the ball and take the game to the opposition. Their positive mindset and willingness to run into space made for some exciting rugby.

James captained the side brilliantly, leading with determination and composure. He set a great example with his work rate and positive approach.

Theo brought energy and physicality to the team, staying involved from start to finish. His willingness to take on defenders helped drive the team forward.

Eddie J impressed with his enthusiasm and growing confidence, contributing well in both attack and defence. He showed great commitment throughout.

Ben P worked hard across the pitch, supporting teammates and making important contributions. His effort and attitude were consistently excellent.

Harry P showed great energy and willingness to get involved, making good progress and contributing well to the team’s efforts.

Ethan delivered a strong all-round performance, combining effort in defence with confident running in attack. His consistency was key for the team.

Chaos:

Immy (C), Hattie, Millie, Erin, Sophia, Emily,Hannah, Poppy

The Chaos team — an all-girls Spartans side — were simply outstanding. Their organisation, teamwork, and fluidity were a joy to watch, with players constantly supporting each other, spreading the play, and working together seamlessly. Their communication and understanding of space stood out, and they played with confidence, energy, and huge smiles throughout — a fantastic example of what team rugby is all about.

Immy (C) led the team brilliantly, bringing energy, encouragement, and strong leadership. She set the tone with her effort and ensured the team stayed organised and focused.

Hattie was superb in defence, showing great awareness and timing in her tagging. She played with confidence and was always ready to support her teammates.

Millie impressed with her determination and bravery, getting stuck into every phase of play. Her effort and positive attitude lifted those around her.

Erin was powerful and direct, carrying the ball with real intent and breaking through defensive lines. Her confidence and energy made a big impact.

Sophia showed great composure and awareness, making smart decisions and contributing well in both attack and defence. A very encouraging performance.

Emily played with her usual enthusiasm and positivity, supporting play well and making strong contributions throughout. Only stopping to pet the unofficial team mascot, Coach Paul and Pip's Golden Doodle named Scout!

Hannah showed great commitment and willingness to get involved, growing in confidence as the games progressed. Her effort was excellent.

Poppy worked hard throughout, showing good awareness and supporting her teammates effectively. Her determination and attitude were fantastic.

Truly a morning to remember! With four teams, 26 players, and countless moments of teamwork, effort, and enjoyment, this was a truly special morning for Spartans rugby. The development across both U7s and U8s is clear to see, and most importantly, every player played with a smile and supported each other brilliantly.
