Spartans U8s travelled to face Old Saltleians today for another excellent morning of tag rugby, played in the best possible spirit and with smiles all round.

After a slow start, the Spartans players grew into the game – especially in attack where they played with flair; creating plenty of breaks with some dazzling running rugby, and scoring numerous well-worked team tries. Their defensive structure tightened as the morning progressed, although this remains something to work on further in training.

Bob continued his fantastic progress in Spartans’ colours; showing increasing confidence with the ball in hand, some good strong runs forwards which led to him getting on the scoresheet, as well as making positive contributions in defence too.

Ethan played with his usual high energy, working tirelessly across the pitch to chase every opportunity in both attack and defence. His attitude and effort were a pleasure to see, and an amazing example to others.

Hannah showed real enthusiasm from the outset, with her direct running consistently gaining ground for the team, and her impressive support play & positioning leading to some fabulous well-earned tries.

Harry P was brave in possession and calm under pressure, allowing him to make a number of clever line breaks to get the team moving forwards & keep the attacking momentum up when it appeared to be slowing.

Imogen once again showed great vision & an awareness of the space in front of her, bagging a handful of tries with some incredible weaving runs and sidesteps which left the opposition defence trying to grab at shadows.

Phoebe made a brilliant start to her Spartans career, carrying the ball with real intent and making a number of superb runs forwards. She capped off her performance with a couple of very well-deserved debut tries.

Overall, this was an encouraging performance for the Spartans U8s, who represented the club well with their effort & teamwork.

A big thank you goes to all the players, their parents / guardians that travelled with them, and to Old Saltleians for their warm welcome & for being wonderful hosts!
