Spartans Bank Holiday Win

Spartans 63, Cleobury Mortimer 3.

Being forced to replay a cancelled league game on an Easter weekend saw Spartans in no mood for charity, and with a large farming contingent on lambing duty Cleobury were needing some help if their excellent recent results were to continue. Despite some divine intervention with thirty-six hours of heavy rain before kick off, both sides wanted to play running rugby and between them created numerous opportunities as the ball was thrown about. With an air of inevitability, Spartans went ahead and kept the scoreboard operator busy as they racked up the tries, and with a bonus point in the bag before half time Cleobury had just a penalty to show for their considerable efforts.

The second half saw the Men In Black continue to dominate the game, but Cleobury kept on going and never gave up the fight. As the pitch cut up the scoring slowed down, and Spartans were able to give the bench players a try. Fresh legs and clean shirts were soon in action and the ball stayed pretty much in the visitor's half, but the visitors continued to defend well against the black tidal wave. Even an excellent high level referee enjoyed himself as the spirit of rugby shone through, but there was only going to be one winner as Spartans continued to press home their advantage and at a sixty point margin enough was enough.

This week Spartans face a much bigger challenge against an impressive Kidderminster Carolians.
